Newport Media Shrinks World¡¯s Lowest-Power
Mobile Digital TV Receiver Onto Single IC
NMI300 Receiver Will Dramatically Boost Viewing Time for Digital Video Broadcasting-
Handhelds (DVB-H) and DVB-Terrestrial (DVB-T) Handsets
LAKE FOREST, Calif., Oct. 30, 2006 - Newport Media, an innovative fables
semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast media market, today
released the world¡¯s lowest-power single-chip mobile TV receiver for the DVB-H and
high mobility DVB-T market segments. Newport Media¡¯s NMI300 single-chip
Sundance H mobile digital TV receiver significantly increases viewing time while cutting
handset size and cost, and sets key performance records in critical areas that drive digital
mobile TV reception and picture quality.
Newport Media will demonstrate its latest Sundance H solution at TV2Mobile ¡¯06
(booth # 701) in Santa Clara, Calif., Oct. 30 - Nov. 2.
¡°Our lead customers were already impressed with the performance of our twochip
solution that we introduced in September,¡± said Mohy Abdelgany, president and
chief executive officer of Newport Media. ¡°Now, these customers have completed the
verification phase of our Sundance H platform and are quickly moving forward with
designs based on our new single-chip solution. We have very quickly achieved one of
the world¡¯s smallest form factors with the best available power efficiency, and have
established a solid roadmap for even further reductions in size, power consumption and
cost.¡±
Newport Media¡¯s NMI300 solution can receive up to eight simultaneous channels
while maintaining an extremely low 3.0 dB noise figure to extend coverage area with
superior quality. The single chip offering includes a quad-band, direct-conversion radio,

a DVB-H demodulator, plus all necessary memory in a very small 7mm x 7mm
footprint. No other external memory, baluns or loop filters are required to create a
complete solution, and the device is manufactured using low-cost, .13-micron
complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process technology.
The NMI300 solution offers superior performance in key areas including
sensitivity, channel switching time and interference immunity. It also is unique in
combining the industry¡¯s best system linearity with the lowest power consumption. To
ensure the highest-quality user viewing experience, Newport Media also has included a
number of features including 55dB of adjacent channel rejections along with 110Hz
Doppler frequency performance in 8k mode.
Initially focusing on the industry¡¯s fastest-growing market segment, DVB-H,
Newport Media¡¯s Sundance Series family will also support other popular air interface
standards including Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Integrated
Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) and MediaFLO.
The Sundance H system solution is available in sample quantities and is priced at
$8 per unit in OEM quantities of 10,000. The solution will enter volume production in
Q1 2007. A comprehensive reference design is also available including all necessary
control driver software, diagnostic test bench software, a digital video player interface,
user¡¯s manual, test data and other documentation.
